January 15, 2012

First, I promised to show off my room last week so here are some photos:

You walk into my room and BAM.

My desk, which is huge. To tell the truth, I usually sit on my bed and use my green chair as a desk more often than not. But when I do sit at my desk, it's very nice and spacious.
If you look to the left you will see the paper that holds all the answers to my mysterious future scribbled by my academic adviser. Also, I totally want to draw everyone's attention to the shelf where I have a Thor Valentine's Day Card Mailbox which came with a bunch of Thor Valentines and they are fantastic. Best thing I've bought this year. Seriously.

My messy closet. I swear it's usually a lot more organized and not at all ridiculous like this but... actually, no excuse. I'm lazy. Oh look me being lame making a peace sign in my mirror! (there are supposed to be shelves in there but mine are broken so I turned it into kind of a little beauty nook. Which I quite like the idea of being in my room. More reasons to never leave my room, yay!)

Oh look. A dvd player without a tv. Our apartment came with a dvd player out in the living room so I didn't know what to do with my nice one. I've been toying with the idea of getting a super cheap tv to put on there with it. Pros: I'll never have to leave my room even MORE. Cons: I'll probably never leave my room ever again.

Classes have been all figured out. It took a lot of headaches and much catching up on. I got into the Chem class that I needed and also into my Biology Orientation class and Biostatistics. All this week I've just been playing catch up. Since I didn't switch into any of these classes until Monday or Tuesday, I had about a week of work to catch up on. It's the reason I didn't go down to Utah for the long weekend, too much to do. Good news though, after a few 8 hour intense homework sessions, I'm pretty much back on track!

Monday, we got to meet our FHE groups for the semester. I'm the oldest girl. Again, weird. Even though most of the other girls are freshmen or sophomores, they seem nice and so do our boys. I do feel a bit bad for them because the girls in our group weren't being very discrete over their disappointment. I thought they were nice though and isn't that supposed to be what matters?

Saturday night, Delancey and I attempted to make cupcakes. She's got this awesome Disney Princess recipe book with all sorts of different treats based on the different princesses. We tried to make one of the Belle recipes which was supposed to be a simple chocolate cupcake turned fancy by cutting the top off, and cutting a heart out of it and setting it back on with icing between. The key word in all of this is 'try'. We didn't have a cake mix so we just used the one on the back of the cocoa powder box which was for cake. Cakes are not cupcakes. Related, yes, but not the same thing. We filled the tins up too high and it overflowed big time. We had left for literally only two seconds to find a burnt chocolate mess on the bottom of Delancey's oven. We tried to put less mix into the pans but the batter was too watery so they didn't rise properly. At that point, we kind of gave up. Since the cake was still good tasting, we just piled it in with the frosting and mixed it all together.

It may not look beautiful but it still tasted good! I am assured that this is how cake pops are made. I did not know that. I like it just fine this way. In fact, I believe Lance and I should call them Retirement Home Cupcakes. (Get it?)

Another thing I should mention that happened last night that you know, isn't that important but whatever... my car got booted.

I was at Delancey's past curfew and I probably wasn't parked in visitors parking but Delancey walked me out to my car around 1am and there was a note on my door saying 'wooohooo you got booted!!' It also was warning me not to drive because it will damage my car big time and give me a bigger fine. So that was fun, had to call the towing place and wait for a guy to come take the boot off. It was a 50 dollar fine as well.

Awkward change of subject, I got Magneto's theme song as my ringtone now so I'm pretty much the coolest person around.

The Golden Globes were tonight and of course I was watching them. I can't help myself. These sort of things make me giddy and happy and excited. This is the beginning of the awards season and I can't wait until the Oscars. I loved the Globes. So many good moments and even though Michael Fassbender didn't win best actor for Shame, he looked mighty fine in his suit. I wish people really understood how much I admire movies and all the work put into them. Honestly this kind of thing is my sort of my crack.

Yes, I am considering having an Oscars party.

Other than that, today has been quiet. Went on a nice long drive up to the Teton Mountains with this really nice guy from my ward and I have a date on Tuesday.

Welp.
