So, it's only been forever since I've last posted and I realize that I've been so far off from my 'posting every Sunday' pattern for so long that no-one remembers it. I can't help from just being busy on Sundays. Not that I'm any less busy on any other day though. I have an excuse for the weekend of the 8th but none for last weekend. On the 6th, Stephanie, Sarah, and I went to Pittsburgh!
Which is an absolutely beautiful city! It was a crazy idea that all three of us came up with a few months ago. Stephanie had missed seeing Muse in March with Sarah and I and we figured the next closest show they'd do was in Pittsburgh on the 8th. Having Cage the Elephant as their opening act was just an added bonus! The only problem was, I'm the only one still in school now because they're both fancy and already graduated. They only had work in the way, but I also have school because I'm the cool 5th year senior. I refused to have that in the way. And hey, it was only the first week of school, right? I don't think I missed that much from that ONE Friday off, especially since I'm still doing alright now. Anywho, we drove down on Friday morning.
From the get go, we knocked out three museums. Art museum, Natural History Museum, and then since it was open late, the Andy Warhol museum.
Saturday we were super cool tourists and went to their incline even if we did do it backwards. We did a lot of walking down town and looking at the cool buildings, trying to find book stores, going to the toonseum (comic museum) and then ate dinner at a fancy restaurant. We ate alligator for appetizers and had crawfish and seafood and it was delicious.
We were all taking photos of our food and it was king of silly but lots of fun. We wanted to stay for the live entertainment because they looked like a jazzy new orleans version of Mumford and Sons but we felt bad taking up our table for so long.
Sunday was our lazy day and also probably the best day. We slept in until we had to check out of the hotel. Then we went to a market and bought picnic foods and went to the Fort Hill (?) park that's across from the stadium.
First it started out pretty cloudy but it turned into a beautiful sunny day and we were there for hours, just talking, eating and lounging, creeping and having fun. We actually stayed there until it was time for the concert!
Cage the Elephant
Muse!
We were three people from the barriers even though we only got there an hour early. The cool girl in front of us had been waiting since 2 in the afternoon or something. So, I think we did pretty well for ourselves. It was amazing. I say that every single time I see Muse. But it was even more awesome seeing it with both Sarah and Stephanie. AND they played Fury! I still can't get over that. They haven't played that live at all since early 2004 and I don't think they've played it in the US at all. I adore that song and it's probably in my top five favorite b-sides. (I know, I say that about every single b-side)
After the concert, it was time to say goodbye to Pittsburgh. We had to leave the city immediately because both Stephanie (who's taking a class at S'craft) and I had classes the very next day. Which meant driving the five hours up and then an additional 2 hour drive for me to get back to my apartment. Still worth it!
After Muse
Now I need something else to look forward to. That wont be too hard seeing as it's almost Autumn! The Halloween stores have been up and open here since mid August! The temperature is finally dropped to boot and sweater temperature and pumpkin is just around the corner. I couldn't be happier.
I've finished my lab position in the fish lab because I can not do the 15 credits with waitressing AND independent research. I was so glad to get the experience and it's taught me a lot about applied genetics and science and now I kind of know what I want to do more with my degree than before. We may not have found an answer to the mutation that I was working on but I'm sure my lab instructors will continue research without me and I hope that one day I can read about their research. I'll always know that in a little way I helped.
Last night, Robbie and I made apple cider cupcakes and gave some of them to our cool neighbors next door. I only think they're cool because we can hear what they watch on tv sometimes and seriously, I just want to be bros with them. Plus, they aren't too loud like the people directly below us. Seriously, I want to be like a grouchy old man and jump up and down and yell at them for being young whipper snappers. Alas, that's life as a college student. Well, if anyone doesn't want to party, they can join Robbie and I who will be knitting and watching cool BBC television shows on Friday nights. Which is code for getting drunk and throwing knitting needles at british strippers. Haha, just kidding.
Or am I?
Have another photo of Pancake. All dressed up with no-where to go.
