August 12, 2013

My room is starting to look really strange as I pack. Bare and unlike me. Pancake isn't so happy about the boxes either. They're partially blocking the door to the bathroom so he has to jump over one whenever he wants to eat or use his litter box. I'm almost considering keeping it that way so that he'll be forced to exercise at least a bit every day. Plus I get exercise from stepping over as well. Yup, that's my cardio. Still, this whole packing and moving thing is a complete nuisance. I keep packing things that I think I won't need for the next week only to discover the next day that it would have been really cool to still have that thing out.

For instance, have you ever been forced to go to a Starbucks to get really expensive tea to keep you awake when studying for your huge final exam when you already own tons of tea at no expense at all? But then of course you go and it tastes good and the barista is cutest bearded hipster you've ever seen and you think 'Great, now I'm going to have to come here more often.' Because this is what's happening to me. Thank goodness I do have Pancake because he was probably the only reason I woke up this morning. Like most kittens, he too enjoys the sitting on faces in the mornings. My final test was this morning. eh. Then my final exam is on Thursday. I just need to hold on until then.

I am aware that I don't have the greenest thumb in the world. It amuses me now that I wanted to be a botanist for so long when it takes me months to grow a single tomato. At least my Brown Eyed Susans blossomed this week. Never mind the fact that all of Western's bloomed a couple weeks ago. Now if I can just get my strawberry plant to get past the one inch tall phase. I went ahead and re-potted them in a larger pot even though the directions say 'wait till they're 3 inches' because they've honestly not gotten any taller in the last month. Re-potting was an adventure all by itself. First of all, buying potting soil? Why can I not find small bags? I do not need a whole gallon of dirt for one plant. And why am I paying for dirt anyway?? What nutrients are in this soil that can't be solved by slapping an overripe banana into the dirt you scrape up with your bare hands in your backyard? That's how things grow, right? With bananas? Then you have to open the darn bag. Needless to say, I busted it open not before accidentally dumping a ton of dirt on the floor. All said and done, hopefully my strawberries begin to grow again.

I've been listening to this song on repeat.

Now if you'll excuse me, Pancake and I are going to take a little nap.
